Forget kebab – Cook salmon for yourself!
I like to cook since I had moved out from my parents house (I didn’t have to coz my dear Mum was is charge making all the delicious meals). Someway I found out “myself” how to concoct things to eat something nice. Pork, beef, turkey, chicken, fish – I wasn’t afraid of any new things. I still like to try new meals.
However, back to what I wanted to share: It was cooking time today again and because I’m fanatically started a low carb diet within the confines of new year resolutions, it will be healthy stuff on the table again. I don’t know how to name this meal, it should be something like: Baked Alaskan Salmon file with roasted potato and mixed vegetables. Let’s see how to prepare it:
This is what you are going to need (I’ll try to give you prices too – everything’s from Gateshead Tesco – serves 2):
- salmon file (frozen, 8 pack, 1kg, special offer £5) – deal with 2 slice/person
- baby potato (canned, appr. 40p) - ½ can/person
- for the salate: (i’m gonna write ingredients only, you’ll see the quantity to you own taste)
1 iceberg (49p)
canned anchovy olives – we’ll need 5-6 olives only (£1.09)
¼ pack of radish, so 1-2 piece (56p)
2 tomatoes (30p)
½ red paprika (33p)
½ canned pineapple, sliced (35p)
½ lemon (25p)
You’ve bought everything. How to go for it? No need to be afraid it’s not taht difficult (I took some photos for good you fish&chips stuffers :) ).
Preheat owen. Butter salmon files and spread some olive oil, oregano on it (yeees, you have to unpack the files from the factory package – it’s not microwave pizza, pal). Wrap them into cooking foil, chuck it in the owen for 25-30 minutes. Turn them around at half time.
Salate: cut all to small pieces, mix it, squirt lemon juice on top, little hint of salt (delikat), that’s it.
Roast potato: cut baby potatoes into half, hint of delikat and roast it on a table spoon of oil in a pan. It’s done in 5 minutes during the fish is getting ready.
I finished the whole thing in 35 minutes including serving, photos and don’t forget I’m far not a pro in the kitchen. So you should be done in 25-30 mins. It was fabolous, healthy (salmon is rich in Omega3, Vitamin D, protein, low fat, + many good vegs), substantial and DID NOT COST even half a price of 2 disgustingly unhealthy kebab. And it didn’t take longer than going to the local takeaway.
Enjoy it. ;)
